Ser vs. Estar con tiempo

Question

Hola! Tengo un problema con ser y estar: Ser:tiempo Estar:el estado Pero ambos? Quiero preguntar: What time does the supermarket open?

¿Sabes hasta qué hora está abierto el supermercado?

o

¿Sabes hasta qué hora es abierto el supermercado?

No estoy seguro - ¿puedo tener ayuda con eso, por favor?

¿Sabes hasta que hora está abierto el supermercado? ("Es" no tiene mucho sentido, o es menos común de usar, se pueden usar las dos formas y te van a entender, pero lo correcto es "Está")

Lo siento pero debo usar ser o estar y estoy confundido qué debería usar porque hay que usar ser para tiempo y estar para el estado, y este pregunta tiene ambos! :) - anna1018, May 1, 2014

It seems a strange construction to use estar or ser when the most common way is to say:

¿Qué hora abre ......? Por ejemplo: ¿Qué hora abre (cierra) la oficina de correos?

What time does the post office open (close)?

Are you by any chance studying the passive form in Spanish?

If so, (the answer is yes) please remember that the passive form uses the verb ser

Most importantly, you should have already been given some notes or guidelines by your teacher on how to construct sentences using the verbs ser (es) and estar (está)

Yes I hace been given ways to use it but I was confused as I was told that time uses ser and estar can be used for state and condition and this sentence seemed to have both time and state in it so I wanted clarification - I was not wanting my homework che - anna1018, May 1, 2014
