nítido ( nee'-tee-doh )

adjective ( clear, sharp )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

How to post a picture

Examples:

: 1. El nuevo televisor muestra una imagen tan nítida que se siente como que eres parte de la acción.

The new television displays such a sharp image that you feel like you're a part of the action.

2. Dos semanas después del terremoto, tenemos un cuadro más nítido de lo extenso que es el daño.

Two weeks after the earthquake, we have a clearer picture of the extent of the damage.

Mi maestro me dió nítidas instrucciones de cómo pronunciar la letra z en inglés, pero todavía se me hace muy difícil.

My teacher gave me clear instructions on how to pronounce the letter "z" in English. But, it is still difficult for me.

Si pudiera quemaba la "z" jajajaj

A clear separation between church and state would make some people happy but many cultural traditions like Christmas would have to be sacrificed in exchange.

Una separación nítida entre la iglesia y el Estado serían hacer haría feliz a algunas personas pero muchas tradiciones culturales como La Navidad serían se sacrificadola Navidad tendrían que ser sacrificadas a cambio.

Neither Christmas nor Easter are cultural traditions. They are religious holidays taken from feasts started by Catholics. Governments and cultures simply borrowed them and changed their meaning, since they didn't want anything to do with Catholics. - Ghosthawk, Apr 29, 2014

pick out a beautiful Christmas tree, decorating said tree, giving gifts to pepole we love, and yes, you were waiting for it....build the nativity and some of us actually go to a church servicebut those are traditions...at least in my country. - 007c5fc1, Apr 29, 2014

I actually think that most holidays are inventions of pagan culture; aka Christmas...winter solstice, and Easter ....spring solstice; but I enjoy them both :-))!!! - Jraider, Apr 30, 2014
You can separate church and state and still keep traditions and religion. It just means the church doesn't make the laws. The USA is an example. - jennysk, Apr 30, 2014
Hi jennysk...ok, let me ask you these questions...take the USA for example, it has been a tradition for many many years to have nativity scenes in public spaces. Now they are banned, so in essence, the state has revoked the rights of it's people to follow - 007c5fc1, Apr 30, 2014
age old traditions...some of which the country was built upon. If they want to do that, it should be the same for all religious beliefs, not just Christianity. - 007c5fc1, Apr 30, 2014

Tal vez con estas cámaras modernas podemos hacer fotos más nítidas como antes, pero un artista fotógrafo sacó fotos mucho mejores con su cámara más primitiva.

Perhaps with these modern cameras we can make sharper photos than before, but an artist photographer took much better photos with his more primitive camera.

It is not always clear what the best decision in life is. Sometimes the path that looked safe is the path that hurts you in many ways.

La mejor decisión en la vida no siempre es nítida. A veces el camino que parece más seguro es el más doloroso.

Como nunca me había tropezado topado con la palabra “nítido” antes, la busqué por Internet para asegurarme de que mi entendimiento del significado de esta palabra estuviera fuera nítido, la busqué por Internet. En la sección de imágenes encontré páginas llenas de fotos de chicas ligeras de ropa. Parece que es el título de un espectáculo de programa de televisión en Telemundo.

As I had never run into the word “nítido” before, in order to ensure that my understanding of the meaning would be clear, I searched it on the internet. In the image section I found pages full of photos of scantily clad young ladies. It seems that it is the title of a Telemundo show.

He decidido no incluir una de esas fotos. Lo siento.

I have decided not to include one of those photos. Sorry.
