"Nada más hubiera querido poder verlo crecer"

Es la "nada más" que me vuelta confundido. La transdución es "I just wish I could have seen him grow up." Does "nada más..." sometimes mean "I just..." I would have said, "Yo sólo deseo que lo podría vista crecer". Does it make more sense to say it the other way?

I may be wrong here but perhaps " nada más " in this case could be translated in English as :

" more than anything I would have liked to be able to see him grow up "

Havng initially read the sentence, looked at other people's responses, particularly Luis's great response , and given some careful consideration to the sentence, I think that you could also translate the sentence as:

I would have liked nothing more than to see him grow up!

Remember that you shouldn´t translate literally or word by word, but the entire sense of the sentence, and phrase the translation using the words you would normally use in English. How would you express the same feeling in your mother tongue? The feeling of someone who has lost a beloved child?

I think, but my mother tongue is not English but Spanish, that I would say: I just wish I could have seen him grow up. But that would be very literal again. How about something like: If only I could have seen him grow up! Or something like that.
