Llama bunny?/Caribbean Easter

Question

This is going to be a weird question. I apologize in advance.

My friend is from Cuba, and his girlfriend gave him an Easter basket this year for what I think is the first time he's ever celebrated Easter with Americans, and he put a picture on fb of said basket with the caption: "visit from the llama bunny!"

....Does anyone know where the llama came from in that? I get the bunny part.

Also, in general, I know there is no Easter bunny in Latin America, what are some Easter traditions that we don't have here in the US?

I have no idea about the bunny.

As far as traditions: they are from the Catholic church. There is a festival (a carnival) the week before holy week and they launch a couple of big loud bottle rockets every day to announce it. During holy week they have "Vía de cruces" a parade with the Virgin Mary, Jesus and some saints.

"Pascua" is a bigger deal than "Navidad" in CR. There are only two days a year that the busses don't run, Thursday and Friday of holy week.

Could it be a play on words and religious idols. Dalai Lama - Lama bunny - Llama bunny.

I thought of that also , when i saw the post , in one of the Buddhas stories a buuny ( Hare ) is found to give truly from the heart , the moon was given a mark in his honour , it is known as the "Hare marked Moon" . - ray76, Apr 24, 2014
