Imperfect subjuctive and gustar

Imperfect subjuctive and gustar

I am trying to say: "I hoped she would like us", using the imperfect subjunctive. So far I've come up with:

"Esperé que ella le gustaran a nosotros."

But this seems wrong somehow. Am I right? What am I missing? Is gustar conjugated incorrectly? Please help!

"Esperaba que le hubiésemos caído bien"

"Esperaba que le hubiésemos gustado."

La gracia está en usar verbos diferentes al principio de la frase. - jctv, Apr 23, 2014
Thank you, caer bien sounds better! - annierats, Apr 23, 2014
sylyon, do you normally use the "s' version of the past vs the "r" version? - gringojrf, Apr 23, 2014

Tenía la esperanza de que le gustásemos / gustáramos.

You can also say:

Ansié que pudiésemos gustarle. Deseé que gustase de nosotros. Creí que podríamos gustarle

...and few more.

Regards.

And in English? ;-D - chileno, Apr 23, 2014
Chileno, we have the English, it's in the question. - annierats, Apr 27, 2014

@Chileno, would this work? It has cost me a mighty thinking effort. It appers she did not like us so I make a case for the past subjunctive, but I'm not at all sure of my construction, it's a very difficult sort of sentence, the sort I usualy avoid at all cost.

Esperé/ Esperaba que le hubiéramos gustado .

yes, that's correct, except that "nosotros", erase that. :) - chileno, Apr 23, 2014

In English is not in subjunctive, to begin with. The correct Spanish version of what you have in English is:

Esperé/esperaba que le gustaríamos.

But it CAN be subjuctive, though, right? Because I am hoping that she will do something? - echo3881, Apr 23, 2014
You say ' would' Echo, in the past. The subjunctive , to my mind is because it's already happened and she didn't likeus, hypothetical situation. - annierats, Apr 23, 2014
subjunctive can be used but the structure is another one, as I understand it. Consider, I would hope and see that I liked it... - chileno, Apr 23, 2014
