Do you have to change John to Juan?

If your original name is John, Peter or Mary, when you introduce yourself to your Spanish friends, do you have to change your name to Juan, Pedro or Maria? Or, you just keep your own name and say it in your mother tongue?

Also, I notice some of the famous place names in the world have the fixed translations, such as Nueva York(New York), París(Paris), etc. But how about those unheard or not so famous in your country? How do you express them in Spanish? Or, where can I find the translation for people's names or names of places?

Names are not required to be translated. It's totally up to you if you want to translate it or not. In fact, many names simply don't have translations.

For countries, cities, etc, if you don't know the name then you'll have to look it up or ask someone. Google is a great place to start.
