fundar ( foon-dahr' )

verb ( to found, to base )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Great word, Rac. In the English usage, if something is based on something, it's more for the ideal, and if it is founded, it's more the continuing physical (in general, but of course in English there are many exceptions!). Great work here! :) - Findy, Apr 16, 2014
I gree with Findy, the use in Englsih here is .. different. You found areligion, a sect, butnot just an old buling, but some buildings, such as monstries can be founded..g - annierats, Apr 16, 2014

La amistad se debería fundar en la confianza y el cuidado, no en el dinero y los ventajas.

Original: Friendship should be founded on trust and care, not on money and benefits.

Revised: Friendship should be based on trust and care, not on money and benefits.

Seria una buena idea fundar una organización de beneficencia para ayudar a la gente necesitada.

It would be a good idea to start a charity so that you can help people in need.

Thanks for that, Annie. I've never heard of that breed. Lily was an Italian Greyhound, kept in a cage most of her life, used for breeding and, like most mill dogs, in poor health when she was finally rescued. - Findy, Apr 16, 2014
