Importa vs imprtante

Question

What the difference? Is one slang and the other is proper? Is one a better way than the other?

Hello Roz,

No, they are different,and have different meanings and are not used in the same way!

Example 1 importa Context: travelling in a train:

<< Disculpa señora, ¿le importa si abriera la ventana? >> = "Excuse me, madam, do you mind if I open (were to open) the window?

Exmaple 2 importante: Context General advice.

¡Siempre es muy importante leer bien (o con cuidado) las instrucciones antes de manejar una nueva máquina!

= It's always very important to read instructions well (carefully) before operating a new machine!

These are only two examples but hopefully they should serve to help you see that these words, although sounding similar, do not have the same meaning at all!
