hervir ( ehr-veer' )

verb ( to boil; to seethe )

Sylyon1976 will correct the Spanish sentences as her time permits. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mi padre no puede cocinar para nada. Ni siquiera creo que sepa cómo hervir agua.

My father can't cook at all. I don't even think he knows how to boil water.

2. Después de pelearse con su novio, Miranda se quedó hirviendo de furia.

After fighting with her boyfriend, Miranda was left seething with fury.

A mi me gusta un café con leche bien cargado, pero no es fácil hacer un buen café porque ni el café, ni la leche debe hervir. Hay que retirar el hervidor justo cuando esté al punto de hervir.

I like a good strong cup of white coffee but it's not easy to make because neither the coffee nor the milk ought to boil. Take the pan off the heat just as it reaches boiling point.

Para que yo me coma algo que ha sido hervido, es porque yo estoy enferma. A mi me gusta cocinar todo a la parrilla.

I don't like to eat anything that has been boiled. I only eat things like that when I am sick. I like to grill the food that I eat.

Excuse me, Sylyon. I have a question about grammar. Why is the verb "son", not "es"? Isn't the subject "One(of my favorite dishes)" singular? - joygogo, Apr 8, 2014
Hola, lilium! Next time when you go to a seafood restaurant, you may order this dish. If the shrimps are fresh enough, you will never forget the taste. - joygogo, Apr 8, 2014
Si por ejemplo hubieras dicho que tu platillo favorito era "ceviche", hubieras escrito: Uno de mis platillos de mariscos favoritos es el ceviche.- Como son los camarones hervidos, por eso es "son". Porque no te vas a comer solo un camarón hervido, verdad? - 00e46f15, Apr 8, 2014
