Is this sentence correct?? (Subjunctive)

Question

Yo quiero ir a la biblioteca (1)

Yo quiero que yo vaya a la biblioteca (2)

Which sentence is correct, sentence 1 or 2?

Sentence 1 is correct! (Sentence 2 is wrong!)

You do not need the subjunctive in your sentence as there is only one subject you! (Quiero = I ) You do not need the personal pronoun, yo either since you have already conjugated the verb querer to the first person singular: quiero and so it can only mean I wish/want.

The subjunctive could have been used had you written the sentence in this way:

Quiero que te vayas a la biblioteca = I want you to go the library!

(Lit: I want that you go etc...)

Ex: 2 Quiero que me compres un anillo diamante = I want you to buy me a diamond ring

Please do not rush out to buy me one ...this is only an example! hahaha

The subjunctive is used with verbs of emotion like, for example: querer = to wish/want, esperar = to hope

There needs to be:

1) two subjects 1 in each clause, ex: 1. Quiero ( I want ) que (that) 2. te vayas (you go) a la biblioteca

2).2 different verbs: one in each clause. (clause = part)

3).The verb in each clause should be separated by the relative pronoun: que

When you are making a statement of fact you would use the indicative mood: eg present , future, indicative etc...

If you are talking about something that is an anticipated event that has a future implication you would use the present subjunctive mood. The subjunctive mood is used to express doubt in the mind of the speaker that something will happen!

eg: Espero que llegue mañana = I hope (that) she will arrive tommorrow.

There is doubt here (in this sentence) in the mind of the speaker concerning whether she will arrive the next day!

However, If you say, Llegará mañana = She will arrive tommorrow You are stating a fact or making a statement in which case the future indicatve mood would be used!

or: Creo que llega mañana = I believe (think) that she will arrive tomorrow

It is one of the more tricky areas of grammar that often trips up students of Spanish along with por v para and ser v estar so don't worry if you find it hard to understand it does take practice and time for non natives to grasp but things will start to click into place!

Sentence one for sure. Even though you are using a subjunctive trigger word (as I call it), quiero, you are not transitioning. For example: . You would use the subjunctive here: Yo quiero que ellos vengan.
Yo quiero que él vaya también. Ella quiere que ellos vengan. etc.

but not here:

Yo quiero ir mañana. Es bueno poder hablar en español. (It is under stood that you are the one talking) You may hear this but try to stay away: Es bueno que pueda hablar en español.

Yo quiero que yo vaya a la biblioteca Falls into the same category (Stay away!)
