Hi every one,

The dictionary meaning of this word is to hiss, to boo, to whistle etc,

Now one usage I know of this verb is in the context of theatrics ,, where we can say that the audience is whisteling and booing at the performance ,,, el público estå silabando al espectáculo..

Can some one kindly suggest me other uses and contexts please.

Thanks in advance my dear friends.

Is this just in a negative sense, or in general? - actorgirl, Apr 2, 2014

Not all women like to be whistled at.

No les gusta a todas las mujeres que las silben.

Hay pájaros que cantan y hay otros que silban pero los cuervos graznan.

There are birds that sing, and birds that whistle but the crows croak.

Algunos de los perros responden muy bien a un silbido, pero el mío no me hace attención ni importa cuanto silbo.

Some dogs respond well to a whistle but mine doesn't pay any attention however much I whistle.

You are whistling in the wind.

Usted está silbando en el viento. = Nadie puede oírte.

(it is a pointless exercise; usually nothing to do with whistling)

Busquen las siguientes palabras:

abuchear

sisear

Si alguien dijera:

Le/lo silbaron en el festival, yo no sabría si fue para mejor o para peor.

Vean que hacen con esto, porque no voy a traducir.

:-D

You ain't just whistling dixie - No silbas solo dixie (I haven't a clue if the spanish is correct)

This means - It's a fact, you are telling the truth.
