Which one is appropriate...?
What's the difference between "Te amo" and "Te quiero" in expressing love?.When do you say "I love you" in spanish which one is better to use?
1 Answer
The verb querer is used to express love for/between family and friends, children and pets (It is also used to mean to wish/want)
It is more common to hear people say Te quiero /Te quiero mucho when speaking affectionately towards their family, children pets and friends!
The verb amar is reserved for more intimate relationships between husband and wife or when a guy and a girl are in an intimate, long-term relationship together! It is also used when speaking of the love of God in the scriptures/bible or a person's love for God.
By the way, talking of affectionate terms and just in case it may be of interest to you or anyone else,, although the word amigo is used for friend a more affectionate term for a closer friend is amiguito/a. You may also hear people saying guapo/a or see people in Skype using guapo/guapa which is also used as a term of affection between Spanish-speaking (native) friends .
