As a linguist, languages aren't easy or hard unless you compare it to a base language. For English speakers, Spanish is easier to learn than Mandarin, but for a Mandarin speaker, Spanish is hard. - HackerKing, Mar 31, 2014

All languages are easy to a 3 year old , they have no trouble at all .

All we need do is throw off all the years and be a kid again .

There are lots of languages, in different "families". My native language is English. That was the easiest for me because that's how I grew up. It has many similarities to the Germanic "family", but also to the "Latin" family. I don't think there is another language that has so much intermingling. Therefore, I think that for a person versed in the Germanic or Latin languages would find it easier to learn English than, say Oriental or Mideastern tongue. . But, I'm biased. NOT!

I speak English 60% of time and Spanish the other 40%... maybe 50-50. Writing would be 95% in Spanish and reading would be 75%. I owe everything to my first Spanish teacher. I think she was Armenian. She "lit my fire" with "El Cid Campeador", "Don Quixote de la Mancha" and (a much later work) "Cien Años de Soledad". That was more than forty years ago and I don't rue a moment.

Because of Spanish, I am able to read most Portuguese, Italian, Romanian, and French text. I believe, in that order. Also medical and scientific things, all based on Latin. Those Romans got around.

Do you want to talk about Chinese typewriters? I have one in my sun room as a conversation piece (in Spanish). I think it weighs about 200 pounds..

In my youth I decided to learn Esperanto, which is an artificial language, created by a doctor Zamenhof with the idea that it should be simple and as for being a foreign language for everybody, it is not a monopoly for any people. So everybody can speak it on equal terms and nobody has the advantage in any discussion. It is based on Latin mainly and really simple, but in spite of the fact that there used to have a serious movement , now the bad a simplified English occupied its territory. It was extremely interesting that we had a lady teacher , called Esperantina, because her parents ( Polish people ) were so enthusiastic for Esperanto, that practically that was her mother-tongue - so much about the stopping of the monopoly.

Sign language is by far the easiest language to learn. It is symbols and movements using your upper body with facial expression. The grammar is easy, paint the picture than add the action.

Example: The boy tripped over the log.

In past, log, boy, (then with movement) walking, log, fall.

No pronunciation, no conjugation, no articles and you can be fluent in less than a year.

That was my foreign language in the university. Now long forgotten, so maybe it is the easiest language to forget also.

I found it easier to learn French in high school than to learn Spanish now that I'm a good bit older.
