Unsteady Reputation

Question

It sometimes lists me as earning 10 or 100 reputation points depending on what I do, but it says that I earn 0 reputation points for doing something else even if I haven't exceeded the 200 points. My profile says that I have earned 124 points this month (you could check to see how many say that I earned 0 repuation points).

Could somebody (or some people) explain to me why this is?

I am also puzzled by this, because it happens to me a lot. Or it says that I have only earned 7 rep for my answer being voted on, or something like that. - actorgirl, Mar 29, 2014

well, I mean like in the past. not necessarily today, or in the past few days, but within the past week or so. and actually i think i got a 4 one time - actorgirl, Mar 29, 2014

You can only receive 200 points in a rolling 24 hour period.

But you can only receive 10 points in a 24 hour period for voting up somebody (1 point per vote). That's why you see all of the zeros.

I just voted for you, so you got 10 points. But if you vote for my answer, you will get zero (you have already reached your limit for voting somebody for the day).

I suspected and almost felt sure there was something going on. The first few times, I had points earned for voting up someone else's answer, but it then stopped. I should have checked a little more carefully but I at least have my answer now. I learn something new each day!
