what does alta mean
What does "alta" mean in connection with a yearly internet subscription ? There is mentioned: "Precio:29/mes, Alta:190, Instalacion: 0, Contrato:12 meses".

Yes, alta in that case means membership, admission charge.
Segunda mano because mano although ends in -o is a femenine Word, in one of the exceptions.

I think it would be a membership charge.
The Oxford Spanish Dictionary (4th/current edn) gives an example:
She applied for membership of (literally: in) the organisation = Solicitó el alta en la organización.
Please remember that some feminine nouns like alta have masculine articles el This is not a mistake! Others include el agua, (water) el águila (eagle) el sistema - (the) system, el problema etc... These are exceptions and you have t learn the articles with the nouns so you know which they are!

Words that start with "a" or "ha" need a masculine article although they end in "a" but only when the first syllable is the strong one and only in the singular form.
El agua, el águila, el hacha, el ancla (they have a strong first syllable) but for example, "alarma", the strong syllable is the second one so we say, la alarma.
Las aguas, las águilas, las hachas, las anclas...
But be careful, although you use masculine article if you use an adjective, it has to be in femenine.
El agua fría El águila rápida El hacha afilada
I hope this can help you.

Actually - the teaching over skype is a good idea.. i will use it someday.
It will almost certainly be the annual membership cost since:
1.they give you the cost per month: "Precio: 29/mes, mes = month
2 The annual cost is much higher/greater
So, please don't worry...you can still go ahead and ask them...hopefully they should confirm to you what I have just said!
I hope that helps! ![]()
Muchas gracias Feliz77. Thank you for the answer. Well, i have to call and ask .. i can't figure out if it is yearly or only once.
.. or like "la mano" .. as in segunda mano which sounds very wrong to me - I want it to be "segundo mano" ![]()
Maybe I can add in.. I was tought that the rules concerning the syllables are:
Words ending on vocal or S or N have emphasis on the second last syllable and the rest have emphasis on the last syllable.
The exception to these rules are where there is an accent mark. Like in "águila".. which has 3 syllables and ends on a vocal, but the accent mark makes emphasis on the first syllable.
