if i wanted to say, "the worst of school is the homework because it is hard." Whilst meaning homework in plural form rather than singular, would this be ok? "lo peor del colegio son los deberes porque es duro."

I've always learned homework as "la tarea"

From missy8888's response:

You wouldn´t say "mis tareas" because it is already referring to an unquantifiable number of homework. In English, you don´t say "homeworks." The word "homework" refers to a little or a lot. In Spanish it is the same, and "mi tarea" is appropriate for all situations, whether you have one class's worth or fifteen hours' worth.

As I understand it, deber means must or to have responsibility. While this may loosely tie in with homework, "la tarea" is the literal translation.

Therefore, the sentence could read:

Lo peor del colegio es la tarea porque es duro.

Homework can be translated like "tarea" o "deberes". In Spain "deberes" is more common but in some countries in Latin America, for instance,Mexico, "tarea" is more common.

You can find Spanish tips in my website! I hope it can help you!
