Hey guys, could anybody please tell me what the most popular news websites are in Spain? For both local news and world news? Does Spain have it's own equivalent to the BBC for example? Thanks. Mark.

I would advise you to look for alternative media. All MSM in Spanish, wheteher from Spain or elsewhere, are a literal translation of the Englsih-langauge propaganda and twisting machines like BBC, CNN, etc.

Looking for, and finding alternative resources is always in the benefit of those who want to learn something about anything.

Try The TV newsite:

televisión española

If you follow this link you can watch Spanish TV( RTVE.es ) on your computer.

Obviously they also have national newspapers such as El Mundo and El País. These have web-sites..

Annie is right to flag RTVE - if you want to watch TV they have a huge archive with TV series - I liked a two parter about the kidnap of Bettancourt in Colombia, documentaries, radio and so much more going back 20 + years. I like a travel/music/ cooking programme un país para comérselo. The documentaries are very wide ranging and I find them easier to follow than series like pelota. I do not know the level of your Spanish - intermediate covers a huge range but this site has good info and exercises and often bases it around the news: ver taal The BBC has a site for news in Spanish called mundo I read El País. I sometimes look at 20 minutos a newspaper with lots of videos. For balance ABC gives the conservative viwpoint. I also like el diario but it is to the left. La sexta is good for more satirical items especially the journalist Jordi Évole or the Gran Wyoming satirical A number of Spanish authors eg Arturo Pérez-Reverte and Lorenzo Silva comment knowledgeably on current events. They have web sites and twiiter feeds. Speaking of twitter the Police service feed is excellent for colloquial Spanish - I do not have a twitter account but you can access twitter on the net and it is interesting to follow a variety of comments eg after Cristina had testified for example.Policia The Spanish equivalent of Private Eye is El Jueves. Finally Latin American papers and stations do cover Spain. This Colombian paper has good articles and comment:El Espectador

Hi diagnox. To be honest I actually despise the BBC including the rest of the MSM but I still like to know what rubbish they are spoon feeding to the population. The problem is though I happen to believe that the vast majority of the alternative media are working for the same people who produce the MSM, its just a different type of propaganda. Alex Jones and his show "infowars" is a classic example, Jones is a liar and I have met him in person he is not a nice guy like on his show. David Icke is another one, he used to work for the BBC and probably still does in my opinion.
