Could you please fill in your profile?

I find great help and pleasure in using this excellent SD site daily. However, it would be much easier and more motivating to answer when one knows at least what native language the questioner commands. I am sure that all members would profit if this information was available.

Thank you britsk , A very timely post , I am getting tired of asking new members to do this . - ray76, Mar 10, 2014
Yes, and I understand you. Let's hope that the appeal will be understood and respected for the benefit of us all. - britisk, Mar 10, 2014
Ditto and Ditto - if members can't even do that I don't feel inclined to help them. - ian-hill, Mar 10, 2014
There is a solution and it's very simple. No profile, no questions or comments (no shirt, no shoes - no service). The site engineers could do it in no time flat. - 007c5fc1, Mar 10, 2014
Good morning margherite. Exactly, you hit the nail fairly and squarely right on the head. Couldn't agree more and I hope the responsible engineers read the comments. - britisk, Mar 11, 2014
Buenos días sra. margherite. Exactamente, usted en el clavo total y absolutamente justo en la cabeza. No podría estar más de acuerdo y espero que los responsables técnicos leer los comentarios. - britisk, Mar 11, 2014
Should someone make a point of that in the Feedback tab? They could make you HAVE to fill out your profile! - 00ffada9, Mar 11, 2014
That has been suggested HCA but it will never happen. - ian-hill, Mar 11, 2014

Thank you britsk , that is a very important point that you raise ,

the sex of the member is also important , but if you feel uncomfortable

with disclosing that at first , then it is OK, when you feel more comfortable

with us you will divulge that also . Commitment is important in any

relationship , and we have found over the years that the members who

early on commit to our rules and regulations , well, they stay and become

valuable members and dear friends . The ones that do not commit early on ,

they ask a question or three then disappear without a word of thanks .

This is a great site full of wonderful intelligent and committed members ,

enjoy all that is to offer , and be part of this happy band of "Spanishdictaholicks".

A black and brown sheep.Good example. I used to go with an uncle who was a sheherd in Lockerbie for several hundreds of these, all the same colour - britisk, Mar 10, 2014
Sorry....." shepherd " ( " pastor " ) - britisk, Mar 10, 2014
Hey, but I like being the odd one out! :P - NikkiLR, Mar 10, 2014
I am the black sheep, at least that is what mom always told me. - 00551866, Mar 10, 2014
I'm always the one who sticks out at my house, so does that mean I'm the cool looking sheep? I prefer dark sheep to white ones :) - Ghosthawk, Mar 10, 2014
Let's just not be like all the cruise sheeps. - 007c5fc1, Mar 11, 2014
"sheep" I am neither black not white , but sometimes black and blue . - ray76, Mar 11, 2014
Ahhh...ray...por favor...buques de crucero > (spanglish) cruise sheeps :-) - 007c5fc1, Mar 11, 2014

I find this difficult as I do not like being dictated to. I do not see why it matters whether I am male or female. However, you can look at the forum and information without signing in. I therefore take the view if you choose to sign in, even if you only comment on one post or ask one question you are part of the community and just as so many people give their time and encouragement, it is not much to ask that you trust the forum with some information. I filled in my profile when I first decided to join. I feel slightly cheated if someone expects help or advice but has not completed any of their profile. Why? I want to give a helpful answer and knowing something of the level someone has achieved in a language is useful. I haven't yet filled in the bit marked 'about' - but it is clear from my posts I am a native speaker of English. It can be helpful if aperson has Spanish and English as second languages knowing which one they are more comfortable with as you may give a more detailed answer in their prefered language. It can also make clearer particular difficulties if you discover their native language is one with a different alphabet and grammar to English or Spanish. So on this we are not being dictated to just helping each other.

Great answer Mardle , I agree the gender is of no consequence at first , and it becomes obvious after a while anyway, but ones native language and level is very important , my Australian English is quite different from an English born & bred person. - ray76, Mar 12, 2014

Fill in your profile. It's important if you want to get votes.

It is only my decision amiga - it could never be mandatory - I think you know that :) - ian-hill, Mar 11, 2014
I did not say I would not help - I said I would not vote. - ian-hill, Mar 11, 2014
I wasn't referring specifically to your post. britisk mentioned answers, not just votes but I changed my message and picture anyway. I hope it is ok now. - 007c5fc1, Mar 11, 2014
Looks fine to me. - rac1, Mar 11, 2014

Bumping again.

There seems to be an increasing number of threads being posted where the member has made no attempt at completing any of their SD profile.

I am inclined to ignore such threads.

I am bumping up this reasonable request.

It is not very much to ask for.

I will never vote for a post where the member has not completed their SD profile.

Nunca voy a votar por un puesto en el que el miembro no ha completado su perfil SD.

I do not believe the rumour that these are members that have not filled in their profile

We are equally kind to all members here , we just don't know what language

that they are speaking so are unable to adequately help them

A world on maybes can be obliterated with one well mannered entry. - ray76, Mar 14, 2014
Are you suggesting that some members are just a barrow load of chimps monkeying around? :) - ian-hill, Mar 14, 2014
