campo ( kahm'-poh )

noun ( field, country )

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mi esposo prefiere pasar un día en el campo que una semana haciendo de turista en la ciudad.

My husband would rather spend one day in the country than a week being a tourist in the city.

2. Su campo principal de estudio es la genética.

Her primary field of study is genetics.

Este fin de semana me voy de viaje. Iré a México a visitar a mi familia. Casi al final del viaje tengo que pasar por 100 millas de carretera en las que sólo hay campos y más campos de cultivo. El paisaje es muy bonito y lo mejor es que esa carretera está especial para correr.

I am leaving to visit my family in Mexico this weekend. When I almost get to the end of the trip, I have to drive through 100 miles of road where all you can see are fields and fields of different crops. It is very pretty. But, the best part is that this highway is perfect for speeding.

Los voy a extrañar. Espero que Rafa los pueda ayudar.

Me encanta vivir en el campo aunque la vida de un campesino no sea tan sencilla como cree la gente de las ciudades. Siempre hay problemas, ya que sea hay desmasiada agua o falta de lluvia. Además que los animales necesitan su comida todos los días, incluso el domingo.

I love living in the country even though the life of a countrybumpkin isn't so easy as the townies think. There are always problems with too much water or not enough rain, and the animals have to be fed every single day including Sunday.

En el pasado, los campos magnéticos eran muy misteriosos. A pesar de eso, los vikingos aprendieron como usarlos para navegar sus barcos.
