This week's free Spanish learning set is all about colours. This may seem like a simple subject for our more advanced learners but we always try to include some little known facts in our lessons so even if you're advanced you may learn something new.

Here you have the lesson about Spanish colors in a simple story book style, flashcards to match and then for those who would like to test their knowledge afterwards you have a quiz.

¡Espero que les sirvan!

I have always been facinated by the lack of words in Spanish to describe colors. Something that is green is green, yet in English there are dozens of different greens.

Which greens are you thinking of Gringo?

lime green = verde lima

bottle green = verde botella

forest green = verde selva

teal = verde azulado

olive green = verde oliva

yellowish green = amarillo verdoso

bluish green = verde azulado

emerald green = verde esmerelda

grass green = verde hierba

light green = verde claro

dark green = verde oscuro

jade green = verde jade

malachite green = malaquita

mint green = verde menta

moss green = verde musgo

sage green = verda salvia

turqoise green = verde turquesa

Thanks Kiwi!

I did the lesson first but I didn't seem to retain the infomation, I ended up with spectacularly stupid errors. I'm really glad though because I never had any idea when to use anajarada before.. There is one picture with squares of various reds and I actually thought the answer was ' reddish' if you see what I mean, if you want the answer ' rojo' I think it would be more clear o if there is less choice. Just a small comment of no importance.

A great quiz!

Hola, Kiwi-Girl,

Thanks for your help. I did log in, took the quiz and got a good grade. Just as you said, “color” seemed to be an easy learning subject, but I still learned a lot from your well-designed lesson. You are a GREAT teacher!!!
