Question on Poder past tense

Using poder in the preterit form (yo pude, tú podiste, etc), as an example, can someone please give me a sentence using it correctly?

Thanks!

Vi un montón de peces, pero no pude coger ninguno.

No pude dormir durante años.

You just use it like any other verb in the preterite - to refer to specific instances or during specific time periods.

Also it can be used to convey not only being able to do something but also that it was done, eg, we could and we did.

Pudimos abrir la ventana y contemplar el centro de Madrid, que estaba celebrando.

El verbo "poder" es irregular y está sujeto a errores. Uno de ellos sería conjugarlo como verbo regular (yo podí, tú podiste,el podió, nosotros podimos...) pero no es nada habitual.

El error que sí es habitual, incluso en nativos, es añadir una "s" en la segunda persona del singular:

  • tú pudisteS
  • tú estuvisteS
  • tú dijisteS

No se pone esa "s".
