Why did you learn Spanish or English? What made you interested in learning? How do you use it in your life?

La verdad es lo hice para 'conseguir la chica'. Conocí una muchacha que no quiso aprender inglés y yo quiera andar con ella. Fue una motivación fuerte. Después, hubo mucho más beneficios pero así es como empezó.
The truth is I did it to 'get the girl'. I met a girl who did not want to learn English and I wanted to hang out with her. It was a strong motivation. Later on there were many more benefits but, that's how it began. :-D

Pues, estoy aprendiendo español porque siempre he querido aprender otro idioma y estudié español por dos años cuando estaba en secundaria. Me gusta el idioma y conozco muchos hispanohablantes asi que decidí aprenderlo.
Well, I am learning Spanish because I have always wanted to learn another language and I studied Spanish for two years when I was in high school. I like the language and I know many Spanish speakers so I decided to learn it.

Mi interés en español empezó en el segundo año del curso español que tomé cuando estaba en secundaria. Me cayó bien la profesora y hice amiga con una chica venezolana. Cuando tienes gente en tu vida que te interesan entonces el idioma que hablan se convierte interesante.
My interest in Spanish began in the second year of the Spanish course I took when I was in high school. I liked the teacher and I made friends with a Venezualan girl. When you have people en your life that interest you then the language they speak becomes interesting.
¿Cómo lo usas en tu vida?
Como iba deciendo, conozco muchos hispanohablantes asi que uso el idioma casi diario. Hay muchos tiendas y restuarantes por acá en los que puedo usar el idioma también.
Like I was saying, I know many Spanish speakers so I use the language almost daily. There are many stores and restaurants around here in which I can use the language as well.
Pues, tomé una clase de español en la preparatoria porque me pareció que iba a ser divertida. Ahora vivo en México y no tengo otra opción sino aprenderlo.
I took a Spanish class in high school because it looked like it was going to be fun. Now I live in Mexico, and I have no other choice but to learn it.

I love English and Spanish as much as I love my native language, which is Portuguese. I love the idea that comes to my mind when I study these languages which is that I will be able to communicate efectively with more than a half of the world's population and that it could open not only professional opportunities but endless chances to make friends, to learn new things and live life to the fullest. That would certainly not be possible speaking only one language. Each language has an unique soul that is composed by the culture associated to it and its own form, I mean its sounds and words and everything related. When you learn a different language, when you really study and achieve higher or near-native proficiency, you incorporate to yourself part of this culture and make yourself more confident, more adaptable and more understanding of the world. As a Portuguese Language teacher for foreigners I see how learning a second language open the eyes of my students and help them to be more tolerable to others and feel that they have the ability to do anything they want to if they just put the right effort into it. It's endless the list of good things a second or third or more languages might bring to one's life. Get onboard, find it out by yourself, you will see it will be worth every minute and sacrifice. By the way, along with Spanish, try Portuguese, it's gonna be the fourth most spoken language in the world by 2050 and it's as rich and fun as Spanish.

I wanted to learn Spanish as my wife and I have gone to Puerto Vallarta every winter for the last 12 years. I wanted to be able to chat with my friends in their native language. PLUS, cuando ellos visitan nuestra pais, los gente de los estados unidos creen ellos deben hablar inglés. Pero cuando vamos a Méxcio, no necesitamos español. !No es correcto!

Well, I learned English because I've lived in the U.S. my whole life. I'm learning Spanish because I want to learn a bunch of languages during my life, and Spanish is the easiest and best one for me to learn right now.One day I want to be fluent in many languages, so that I may work as an interpreter for people who do not know English.
