There are many words in English with the prefix “sub”.

The idea is to find one and write a sentence using it and translate it into Spanish.

Example.

The food was absolutely sublime.

La comida era sublime. o la comida estaba sublime - take your pick ha ha

Fácil ¿no?

I think ; la comida estaba..This is said with hesitation and memories of lengthy discussions with Cordobesa. - annierats, Feb 26, 2014
Well that makes it as clear as mud Annie. :) - ian-hill, Feb 26, 2014
I agree Annie, this is one of those tricky ser vs estar moments but what I think it comes down to is that ser is for statement of fact, estar is better for subjective opinions such as how the food or movie was. - Kiwi-Girl, Feb 27, 2014
Nice game Ian :) - Kiwi-Girl, Feb 27, 2014

I really wouldnt' want to give a substandard answer but there is a substantial risk of doing so if I have to write in the subjunctive.

No quiero hacer una respuesta de calidad inferior pero hay un riesgo grande de hacerlo si tengo que utilizar el sujuntivo. .

This is technically a prefix, because it is the prefix sub with invisible letters after it! - 00ffada9, Feb 25, 2014
A "sub" is an underwater boat not a long sandwich :) - ian-hill, Feb 25, 2014
Here in America, someone came up with the idea of calling a long sandwich a "Sub". We even have a restaurant called, "Subway". I don't know what it's like in England, but that's one of the uses of "Sub" here :) - 00ffada9, Feb 25, 2014
Yes they are here too along with Star$s. :) - ian-hill, Feb 25, 2014
That's an interesting way to abbreviate it! Do you mind if I use that sometime? - 00ffada9, Feb 25, 2014
Nope amigo :) - ian-hill, Feb 25, 2014
@ Hac student , that is rather subjective really. - ray76, Feb 26, 2014

For me, 'substantiate' is a very important word. For that reason, I would like to underline it.

Para mí, 'corroborar' es una palabra muy importante. Por esa razón, me gustaría subrayarlo.

subsiding - bajando

subtract - restar

Now the floods are subsiding, homeowners have to subtract their excess from the settlement and perhaps they will have enough money

Ahora las inundaciones se están bajando, los propietarios tienen que restar el exceso de la compensación y tal vez, ya tengan bastante dinero. tengan suficiente dinero
