Los otros vs los demás

Necesito ayuda para entender cuándo debe elegir entre "los otros" y "los demás", por favor.

It's a difficult question. "otros" and "demás" mean more or less the same and normally you can use both. When you are talking about people I prefer to use "demás", but you can use "los otros" as well.

"Se lo he dicho a los demás" "Se lo he dicho a los otros" "I've told it to the others"

"¿Dónde están los otros pantalones?" (there are only 2, know where are one pair but you are asking about the another pair) "¿Dónde están los demás pantalones?" (there are more pairs that you don't know where are they) "Where are the other pairs of trausers? Where are the another pair of trausers?"

You can't use "demás" as "otro" "Elije lo uno o lo otro" "Choose this one or the another one"

To me "los otros" signifies a defined group, whereas "los demás" signifies an undefined, if not infinite group.

But in reality they may well be interchangeable.

Here is an attempt to use them both:

Quiero comprar este y este y los otros aquí, los demás no me interesan.
