Game: Judge and Jury (part 3)
Interest has been shown in this game, so I'm going to post another one. If someone would like me to stop posting these, just ask.
Here are the rules.
Story
"A college student named James is taking a Final Exam. He is facing a dilemma. For the past couple of weeks, the time he meant to set aside to study for the Final has been continuously interrupted by a lawsuit against his father. The lawsuit utterly failed, but James was left with no time to study. He knows that he excels in the subject of the Final, and he would ace it if he had time to study. He also knows that he can only take this test once, and he'll have to repeat the year if he flunks. He explained what happened to the teacher, but she said that there was nothing she could do. He would have to take the test when the rest of the students took it. On the day of the test, James secretly brought in a cheat sheet of answers for the Final. He received a B+ on the Final, and was accepted into graduate school. Immediately after taking the test, James studied hard on the subject on the Final, and became an expert on that subject."
Should James have done this?
P.S. -- For the sake of argument, let's assume that there was no possible way to postpone or retake the Final. It was a one-chance test.

He cheated, plain and simple. Do you think he would have be admitted to grad school if it was known that he cheated? If he became a doctor, would you trust him to not cut corners? I wouldn't.

Oooops, I didn't have time to prepare for that operation and the patient died. Oh well, I'll study hard to save the next one.

"Él sabía que dominará el sujeto" no era una declaración objetivo. En ese momento no era un hecho, solo una creencia. En realidad, no tenía la sabiduría para obtener una buena nota en el examen. Todo el mundo tiene un pretexto para sus fracasos, pero pretextos no son justificaciones.
"He knew that he will master the subject" was not an objective statement. In that moment, it was not a fact, just a belief. In reality, he did not have the knowlege to obtain a good grade on the test. Everyone has an excuse for their failures, but excuses are not justifications.
I think he did the right thing because after all he became an expert on that subject. That shows that he really would had studied if he could, but sometimes life puts obstacles and we must find a way to overcome them, even if sometimes that way is not the most correct.
Yo creo que él hizo lo correcto porque después de todo él se volvió un experto en esa materia. Eso demuestra que él habría estudiado si hubiera podido, pero a veces la vida nos pone obstáculos y debemos encontrar una manera de superarlos, aunque a veces esa manera no sea la más correcta.
