Words from Letters – 1

Words from Letters – 1

Word games are very popular in the English speaking world.

This is a new version. It replaces the old 9 letter game.

The idea is to make words of 3 or more from the given letters.

These are the 15 letters for this challenge.

Y H L E G

A N R I T

K B A R E

There is a 15 letter word this time.

Find an English or Spanish word and then write a sentence in English and Spanish.

There is no limit on the number of answers.

Example:

Don't you dare lean out of the window!

No te atrevas a asomarte por la ventana!

dog in car photo: Car Wash??? 299b4485.jpg

This was the previous challenge

There is no "official" corrector for this game so please make suggestions where you can.

You will have to put your thinking cap on again amigo :-) - 0095ca4c, Feb 6, 2014
I know amiga :) I'm on to it already. Difficult to compete with people who have computers for brains. - ian-hill, Feb 6, 2014
Computers can't deal with "random" though wink wink :) - ian-hill, Feb 6, 2014
Please don't tell me I have a computer for a brain! lol - I found "heart" first, then I thought "heartbreak". Then, how about "heartbreaking"? Then the "l" and the "y" seem so lonely... lol - 00e46f15, Feb 6, 2014
I knew it was not going to be a Spanish word because of the "k". :-) - 00e46f15, Feb 6, 2014

I love this picture. It is beautiful. I've seen it before, but can't remember where. Isn't it the beheading of a queen? (the girl/woman in white?) - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Bien hecho! - sara4ever, Feb 6, 2014
@GH: The execution of lady Jane Grey is the title, I believe. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
The execution of Lady Jane Grey by French painter Paul Delaroche. She was beheaded in 1554. She was only 16 years old. - 00e46f15, Feb 6, 2014
Doesn't seem like an age at which you can do anything costing you your head. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
Jane was convicted of high treason in November 1553, which carried a sentence of death, - ian-hill, Feb 6, 2014
Sounds like something Henry the 8th would do. - rac1, Feb 6, 2014

Angrily - Con enfado/Airadamente

You must know of some doors that are apparently made to be slammed angrily. But if you have any luck, you also know of those doors which you sometimes spent hours easing in, so that slumbering minds could continue to wander freely.

Conoces unas puertas que parecen hecho para cerrar de un golpe con enfado. Pero si tienes suerte, conoces, también, puertas que, a veces, tardabas horas en cerrar despacio y con cuidado, paraque las mentes dormidas pudieran seguir a vagar.

Thanks Ian! I hope Susy/other Spanish person won't facepalm too hard at all my inevitable mistakes (I just fixed one, yay). - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
Hope you don't mind if I show you a few things you might want to change. Put 'that' between some and doors, 'are' before apparently, and change 'too' to just 'to'. Great post! Those puppies are so cute :) - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Thanks GH! I added 'that are' after doors (couldn't figure out why 'that' should go between some and doors. Some that doors?). I rephrased the 'too' into an 'also' with the verb, and changed 'know' to 'know of'. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
Sorry about that. My English books have taught me some wacky ways to phrase sentences in the past. : / Plus my brain isn't functioning as well as it should, 'cause I just got up. Great post! - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014

I offer a tentative suggestion: 'varios tipos'. I have seen it used to mean 'many different' before. Not sure why you used 'y que' instead of just 'y'. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
I am more of a basalt person myself ;0 - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
Thanks for helping :) I looked up 'muchos tipos' and 'varios tipos' with the translater, and both are actually correct. But 'muchos tipos' is closer to my English here. Gracias por toda la ayuda! - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Yeah. I prefer quartz or limestone, but granite is the only one I could get out of those letters. - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Why, judging from your posts, you seem to be practically on fire today! :p - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
Thank you. But I must confess, I have to look up a lot of my Spanish with the translater, since I don't know very much. - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Wow, we have a lot in common! I'd confuse you with myself but for the avatars :) - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
:) - ian-hill, Feb 6, 2014
Really? You use the translater a lot too? - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
There are few things I use more than the translator when writing Spanish. Those include, among others, candies, my fingers, the keyboard and occasionally my brain (but sometimes, I just randomly guess and then check with the translator, jejeje). - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
When I write in Spanish, I use my fingers, my Spanish book, the translator, the computer, and a tiny little corner of my brain where my pet mouse, Paquito, lives. He's really cute. And he knows Spanish, so he tells it to me. It's very helpful. - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Hmmm, interesting Ghosthawk. Does he speak audibly? lol - rac1, Feb 6, 2014
Well, not to other people. They scare him. Only I can hear him. He's constantly reminding me what various Spanish words mean. He's very useful, like a little dictionary. Whenever I forget a word, he finds it and tells me about it. He's very handy :) - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014

Halterbreaking - Halter romper (not exactly the translation)

Halterbreaking a young horse is extremely difficult.

Halter romper un joven caballo es extremadamente difícil. (I couldn't find a Spanish translation, so I tried to break it into two words)

I didn't see that. Oh well. Here's a new one. - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Your word is not Susy's word and who knows if it is my word. So no te preocupas. :) - ian-hill, Feb 6, 2014
It's not anymore, but it used to be. I changed it. - Ghosthawk, Feb 6, 2014
Thanks for clearing that up for my friend ian Ghosthawk. He must have thought I had lost it. rofl - 0095ca4c, Feb 6, 2014

Hola amiga...you don't need, "a" here. :) - rac1, Feb 6, 2014
Nice usage of the imperfect progressive. I can't help wonder whether it only comes into play when telephones ring, lol. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
@Rac: I've seen both versions, with and without 'a'. I've found the version without the 'a' to be comparatively more common, though. - Helado_eclectico, Feb 6, 2014
The "a" is not needed though and in fact sounds much more natural. - rac1, Feb 6, 2014
