Te doy las gracias, hijo y yo tambien te quiero. Though, querer and amar translate to Love in English. I believe there is a difference there for many people. Amar(to love) seems to carry more sentimental weight than querer.

Gracias, hijo. Te quiero también.

Use the translator to get a general idea of what works. Though admittedly, in this case, 'quiero' tops 'amo'.

Using the 'yo' in this situation, as Juan pointed out, is a good way of shifting the 'tide' of the conversation back to yourself (especially since you are probably answering an I love you). - Helado_eclectico, Feb 1, 2014
