Mucho or Mucha?

okay so the sentence is "me gusta me trabajo porque me gusta mucho/mucha a la gente." how do i know which to use? mucho or mucha?

"mi trabajo"
Hay mucha gente ... used as an adjective, so the gender must match that of the noun.
Me gusta mucho la gente .... used as an adverb, so the gender must be masculine.
