"Usted" is a pronoun more formal than "tú", and remember the verb "to be" in Spanish translates "ser" or "estar":

¿Cómo es usted?--->; how are you? But the meaning for us is the same as: please can you describe yourself?. So this question sounds weird if you just want to say: Hi, how are you?

If the correct verb is "estar" so: -- ¿Cómo está usted? --->; How are you?

But it's not usually to say the pronoun, because you can know it with the conjugation of the verb, so it's more common to hear: --- ¿Cómo está? --> how are you? or ----¿Cómo estás? --->; how are you? to friends
