puerta ( poo-ehr'-tah )

noun ( door )

Welcome back Suzy!!!

Sylyon is the official corrector of the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words!

Examples:

1. En el 2010 arqueólogos suizos desenterraron una puerta de madera que tenía más de 5000 años.

In 2010, Swiss archaeologists unearthed a wooden door that was more than 5000 years old.

2. Ve a ver si está abierta la puerta, que siento una corriente de aire frío.

Go see whether the door is open; I feel a cold draft.

Como una puerta se cierra , otra te golpea en la cara,

todavía ,vas adelante con una sonreír. ¡ Así la vida !

As one door closes another hits you in the face,

yet you go ahead with a smile. That's life !

Ten cuidado a quien le abres la puerta, no solo de tu casa, sino de tu corazón.

Be careful to whom you open the doors of your home, but most importantly, the doors of your heart.

Yesterday, I decided to try to read my first Spanish book, 'La Puerta Al Sahara'. I was dubious about my ability, but I read ten pages! I am so happy.

Ayer, decidí intentar a leer mi primer libro en español, 'La Puerta Al Sahara'. Estuve dudoso a cerca de mi habilidad Tenía mis dudas sobre si sería capaz de lograrlo, pero ya leí diez páginas. Estoy tan feliz.

I'm enjoying it JR...I'm not that far into it yes, they are just landing and have given the reader a glimpse of what is to come. It's about pirates in the Sahara...the Tuareg (blue men of Morocco) and I'm really enjoying it so far. - 0095ca4c, Jan 29, 2014

I was really upset by the fact that Susy was being bullied by at least two members. I needed a real time out. - Aranjuez12, Jan 29, 2014

@ Aran: Tienes un corazón de oro. ♥ - 00e46f15, Jan 29, 2014
@Susy. No Susy, I don't think so. Everyone needs to feel personally comfortable, especially in a learning environment. I don't know who it was, or what was said to you as I was away at that time, but personal attacks are taboo. - 0095ca4c, Jan 29, 2014

Cuando la oportunidad llame a su puerta, ábrala. Cuando los acosadores lo hagan, ciérrela.

When opportunity knocks, open the door. When stalkers knock, close the door.

ok...that is too funny HCAStudent...If the stalker is knocking on the door, it must still be closed. - 0095ca4c, Jan 29, 2014
Has the door ever been open, and someone comes in and knocks on it even though it is open? When it's someone you've seen following you for the past few days, it's possibly a good idea to close it ;) - 00ffada9, Jan 29, 2014
