mañana ( mah-nee-ah'-nah )

adverb ( tomorrow )

We are looking for someone to correct the Spanish sentences. Contact me if you are interested in helping others to learn Spanish. Please help each other with corrections as you are able. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words!

Examples:

1. Mañana si no llueve vamos a hacer una parrillada en el parque.

If it doesn't rain tomorrow we're going to have a barbeque in the park.

2. Uno de los soliloquios más famosos de "Macbeth" empieza "El mañana y el mañana y el mañana."

One of the most famous soliloquies in "Macbeth" begins "Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow."

The wording seems awkward to me :/ Corrections, please? - Helado_eclectico, Jan 20, 2014
I'm not a native in Spanish but here are my suggestions. In English: I don't think I'll go to.... En español: No creo que iré a ir a la escuela mañana. Mi espalda me duele mucho. - bandit51jd, Jan 20, 2014
bandita, creo que no voy a ir. Simplicity is all. - annierats, Jan 20, 2014
A lo mejor no (voy a)(puedo)(querio) ir a escuela mañana porque me duele mucha la espalda. - dennywells, Jan 20, 2014
Just another suggestion:) - dennywells, Jan 20, 2014
Yikes! - rac1, Jan 20, 2014
I went with iré a la escuela (I will not go to school). Iré a ir seems weird to me (I will not be going to go) while no voy a ir seems to suggest a higher degree of certainty than I wish to convey. - Helado_eclectico, Jan 21, 2014
I also kept tengo dolor de (because it is essentially similar to me duele, I think). Anyway, what matters is that I didn't go to college today :p Feeling much better now, though. - Helado_eclectico, Jan 21, 2014
Besides SD, I also use other websites for help with my own Spanish and they indicated that the preterit is needed because there is an uncertainty. Their suggestion is: "No creo que vaya a ir a la escuela mañana." I'm glad you are feeling better! - bandit51jd, Jan 21, 2014
I do know that "ir a ir" and it's various conjugations is a valid and normal use in Spanish, even though it feels awkward in English. - bandit51jd, Jan 21, 2014
I just realized that I can just say 'I think I cannot go to school tomorrow', which is somewhat synonymous to 'I don't think I'll be going to school tomorrow'. 'Vaya a ir' seems a bit too wordy to express what I want to say. - Helado_eclectico, Jan 21, 2014
And thanks bandit :) Hopefully, I will be back in college tomorrow working on my science project. - Helado_eclectico, Jan 21, 2014

No presumes del día de mañana, pues no sabes lo que el mañana treará.

Don't take tomorrow for granted, since you don't know what the future will bring.
