ayer ( ah-yehr' )

adverb ( yesterday )

We are looking for someone to correct the Spanish sentences. Contact me if you are interested in helping others to learn Spanish. Please help each other with corrections as you are able. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words!

Examples:

1. Ayer fue un día tan lindo; estaba soleado y con una temperatura agradable.

Yesterday was such a pretty day; it was sunny and with a comfortable temperature.

2. Ayer fuimos a ver la nueva película de horror. Era demasiado sangrienta para mi gusto.

Yesterday we went to go see the new horror movie. It was too gory for my taste.

I was going to point out 'go see the new horror movie' as a mistake before checking my book of Americanisms. Phew! I don't like horror movies with much gore either, especially after a certain movie called... actually, never mind. You might check it out. - Helado_eclectico, Jan 12, 2014

Yesterday, I suddenly realized that I wasn't doing much vacation homework. So I spent all of today repenting yesterday's inaction. Procrastination is fun!

Ayer, realicé de pronto que no estuve haciendo mucho de mis tareas de vacaciones. Por eso, hé dedicado todo de hoy para pesar la inactividad de ayer. ¡La dilación es divertido!

Ayer fuimos a cenar con una pareja de amigos y una fotógrafa de un periódico local se acercó a tomarnos una foto del grupo.

Yesterday we went for dinner with friends, a photographer of the local newspaper approached to take our picture.
