perdido ( pehr-dee'-doh )

adjective ( lost )

We are looking for someone to correct the Spanish sentences. Contact me if you are interested in helping others to learn Spanish. Please help each other with corrections as you are able. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words!

Examples:

1. Esta tarde camino a casa encontré el perro perdido de mis vecinos.

This afternoon on my way home I found my neighbors' lost dog.

2. Aunque el primer tratamiento no fue efectivo, el doctor de Jorge le aseguró que no todo estaba perdido, e intentarían otros para curar su enfermedad.

Although the first treatment wasn't effective, Jorge's doctor assured him all was not lost and they'd try others to cure his illness.

Algunos de nosotros aprenden mucho por visitar este sitio web; para otros es una pérdida de tiempo.

Some of us learn a lot by visiting this web site; for others it's a waste of time.

(Note: Please don't read between the lines. I simply made a sentence.)

Yes, we say to get lost here. Although the translation is not exact, I agree. - annierats, Jan 8, 2014
@ Maria For a person to 'have' been lost' implies extreme lack of care on behalf of the person in charge of thelost person. - annierats, Jan 8, 2014
