How would you translate......

Question

I look into her eyes and I wonder what she is thinking.

My attempt:
Miro a los ojos y me pregunto lo que está pensando.

Suggested translations:
Miro a sus ojos y me pregunto que estará pensando.
La miro a los ojos y me pregunto que es lo que ella esta pensando.
Lo miro a los ojos y me pregunto que es lo que estará pensando.

How would you translate the above and if it's different than my attempt or one of the suggested translations, why would you do the translation differently?

Another common variant of this is: La miro a los ojos y me pregunto ¿qué ha de estar pensando? (as in what must she be thinking?)

Here are some ideas:

"Pienso en" This could mean you're "thinking about" her eyes, or what her eyes are revealing.

Los ojos, or possibly "la Mirada" (de ella). You're trying to imagine what her thoughts might be by reading her eyes, or gaze.

Para adivinar, para figurar, para imaginar.

Que pensará The future tense can mean conjecture regarding the present.

"Pienso en los ojos de ella para adivinar que pensará."

Not being a native spearker, I don't know if looking at one's eyes would be associated with a way to get a read on their thoughts. So I would try to highlight that aspect.

I should leave this to the grammar experts, but it's fun to speculate. : ) Probably needs some correcting...Tried to think of something different. : )

"La" es femenino, nunca puede ir con "Él" no puedes decir "La miro a él" para "Él" se utiliza "le, lo" Le miro (a él) Lo miro (a él), en este caso "La" sustituye a "ella"... La miro (a ella) es lo que en español se llama "Sujeto omitido" (por que se entiende a quien se refiere sin necesidad de poner yo,tu,el,ella,nosotros,vosotros,ellos)

What I'm confused about is does the "La" match up with "her" in "her eyes"?

The correct one is the second one. "La miro a los ojos y me pregunto (lo) que (ella) está pensando"

Unless you want to mean "... what will she be thinking"

And if she is a horse , you're wasting your time. : Baja la mirada!

Look at horses communicating with each other, : nostrils, breath, breathing, ears, tails, tensing of muscles..

They don't read a lot into eyes.. They have poor vision, comparatively and are looking for fast movement, predators , at the outer limits of their big circle of vision , well, not circle, but , they see a large section behind them that we can't se. Probably less sharply, but, movement, oh yes, they see movement!

And then they go! She thinks 'Adios, snort'.
