"before returning to work"

Question

Hello, everyone! I would like some help with proofreading my translation of the following English paragraph into Spanish:

• If an employee is sent home due to illness, he must call the supervisor once he is well again before he will be allowed to return to work. A doctor's release confirming the health of the employee may also be necessary.

Here is my Spanish translation:

• Si un empleado es mandado a casa debido a enfermedad, él o ella debe llamar al supervisor cuando está bien (cuando se pone bien?) antes de que pueda regresar a trabajar. Permiso médico que confirma la salud del empleado puede ser necesario también.

For clarity's sake, and to avoid confusion, shouldn't the title for this question be "before returning to work"? - Esteban3304, Dec 18, 2013

This is a good question with a good answer. I was just worried that, in the future, when people do a search that they might bypass this question due to its wording. That would be a shame because there is some good info provided here. - Esteban3304, Dec 19, 2013

Well done, Alyssa. In this context Él o ella sounds strange in Spanish probably because we don´t have the need for "political correctness." I would write your advert like this:

Si se manda a un empleado a casa debido a una enfermedad, antes de poder regresar al trabajo él debe llamar al supervisor ya que se haya mejorado. Puede ser que un permiso médico que confirme la salud de tal empleado sea necesario también.

If there are various supervisors: ...... llamar a su supervisor ......

Annie, por la exactitud del asunto el reporte sería "no-sick note" ¿ no crees? De todas maneras, se sabe por el contexto que esta nota de "la salud" indicata que el empleado se ha recuperado y que supuestamente ya no está enfermo - 005faa61, Dec 18, 2013
