Idioms/metaphors to include in an essay

Hello
Are there any good Spanish idioms/metaphors that could possibly be useful in an essay? For example 'it's not my cup of tea', 'fighting a losing battle', 'the best of both worlds' etc. It's not an exhaustive list, if there are some that are commonly used in Spain/Latin America, that would be fantastic.
