Spanish school's in Guatemala

Question

Hi,

I was thinking about taking my Spanish to the next level by attending a Spanish language school in Guatemala (through research I heard this area had a lot of them).

Does anyone have any recommendations for schools and/or places to stay? Thanks in advance!

I have never attended a Spanish learning school in Guatemala. But I have used "Speak Shop" which is located in Guatemala. It offers individual online tutoring at a modest price. I have been very impressed with Speak Shop and its online tutors. They are very friendly and approachable. I know Speak Shop also runs a Spanish language school there. I have inquired about it in the past. The information I received leads me to believe it is a very well-organized institution and that is located in a very safe location. You might find it useful to sign up for some online lessons at Speak Shop. That way you could get to know the teachers there and possibly acquire more useful information which may aid your decision. To me, it would be great to go to a school in Latin America at which I had already formed a relationship with at least one of its faculty members. Speak Shop online tutoring offers you the possibility to do that.

Do you have any other recommendations ? I chose Guatemala based off recommendations from students in my Spanish class. A couple of them attended schools in this area and loved it. I'm definitely open to other areas as well.

Well I would recommend Central or southern Mexico. I used the study materials from a school in San Miguel de Allende called The Warren Hardy School. The materials are great. But there are others. Maybe look in Oaxaca or Chiapas. - gringojrf, Nov 28, 2013

Just stay away from the US/Mmexican border to avoid the Spanglish influence. Go somewhere further south where no one speaks English. - gringojrf, Nov 28, 2013
