Passive voice and things that just happened

Hi all,

I know this will seem embarrassingly obvious to me later, but right now, I can´t figure out how to combine two concepts I´m comfortable with individually, but not together.

I was invited -- Fui invitado.

.

I just did it. -- Acabo de hacerlo.

.

I was just invited to an event. . ???

Gracias antemano por qualquieres comentarios o sugerencias.

Help!

I could work around it (maybe) and say something like ¨(Ellos) acaban de invitarme¨.

But, that is not the same thing.

How does one talk about something just having been done

Hi there! Strictly speaking, as it seems you want it ...

  • (Ellos) acaban de invitarme. - They've just invited me.
  • (Yo) acabo de ser invitado. - I just got invited.

Is this what you were looking for?

Thanks RC. I thought about both of those, but feared that conjugating acabar in the first person was maybe wrong, since I would be the object of the invitation, and not the agent. 2nd one looks great. Thanks! - rogspax, Nov 22, 2013

Hi rogspax.

This is difficult because we are not sure what you mean with the word "just".

Do you mean recently?

Or that you had no control over getting the invitation?

"It just happened - out of the blue"

Good point Ian, I meant temporally, or extremely recently. I realize now that wasn´t clear in the English, but thought that since we were talking acabar de, that it would be clearer. I am rarely right on that. - rogspax, Nov 22, 2013
