Turkey Day Confusion

I could use a bit of clarification on the most popular way to say "Thanksgiving" in Spanish. I'm seeing a number of different ways as well as some variety in what is capitalized, and what isn't.

P.S. To the many of you in countries around the world who don't celebrate Thanksgiving, you're missing an excellent opportunity to skip work and eat too much.

Jaja. This year, I will be doing it in Mexico, and hopefully eating too much of the awesome green Mole that I had last time in Toluca, and then loop up to D.F. to work it off at the track afterwards. - rogspax, Nov 22, 2013
Ah, jealous. That sounds awesome (even the track work - runner here too). - vevans, Nov 22, 2013

The only way I have ever heard Thanksgiving said in Spanish is "día de acción de gracias" which is insanely long and cumbersome, but that's how I have heard it said.

Because it is insanely long, many times we just say "el día de (las) gracias" - 005faa61, Nov 22, 2013

As far as I know, "el Día de Acción de Gracias" is the most neutral term. I do hear a number of Spanish speakers here in the U.S. say "Thanksgiving" because of the influence of English and the U.S culture.

Here in Baja it is just Día de Gracias.

I hear it about half like that, and half in the longer version with acción - rogspax, Nov 22, 2013

I heard, irreverently, ¨Día de Chompipe¨ yesterday. I´m 99.99999999% (approximately) that this is not common usage, and one would better turn to Leslie or Pescadoras´ fine, and plausible, answers.
