You are right. Learning a new language is one the hardest things you can do intellectually. But, as JFK said, we do these things not because they are easy, but because they are hard. The reward of increased awareness of the world and other cultures is well worth the effort.
Learning another language at first seems practically impossible. But if you stay with it you will find out that you can do things you never thought possible. When you're able to communicate with people in another language, it's a really good feeling. You're able to connect with them on a whole new and different level. That motivates you. For some, it's a matter of survival, and that's obviously a big motivator. But in the end it will be one of the most rewarding things you ever do.
