In response to deedeegill72:

Actually, the use of "le" with "ayudar" is a phenomenon known as "leísmo". That is to say, when "le" is used in place of "lo". Technically "ayudarlo" is correct, but "ayudarle" has been in use for so long that it is now considered grammatically correct, especially in Spain.

OK, vamos viendo, dijo el ciego = Let's see, said the blind man.

Vamos por partes, dijo el pollo trozado... smile

Me gustaría ayudarlo//ayudarla/ayudarle = I would like to help thee (does that make sense?) in this case le" is neutral and can be used with male/female, else you use "lo" for male and "la for female.

Me gustaría ayudarlo = I would like to help him

Me gustaría ayudarla = I would like to help her

You cannot use "le" in this case as this is considered "leísmo"

I hope it helps to clear this up.

I would say "Me gustaría ayudarle" and I looked at the direct object pronoun lesson here on SD to explain why, and it had lo, los, la, and las. So I can't say why other than it feels better. Sorry. Perhaps someone else can explain it or perhaps I am totally wrong. I have never had any formal classes in Spanish, I have just been learning on the fly. The rest of that sentence sounds great as well as the one about the theater.

¡Gracias por su ayuda!

I am working with a program called Synergy Spanish and that is where those sentences came from.
