carretera ( kah-reh-tehr'-ah )

noun ( highway, road )

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Las carreteras de Nueva York son catastróficas; en cada lado hay un bache.

The roads in New York are awful; there are potholes everywhere.

2. Si vas a conducir en Los Ángeles es mejor que te prepara a pasar mucho tiempo en las carreteras.

If you're going to drive in Los Angeles, it's best to prepare yourself to spend a lot of time on the highways.

Bienvenidos

Carrateras -Road trains in OZ

Algunas carreteras en mi país son solamente pistas de polvo,

de cientos de kilómetros de largo.

Some roads in my country are only dust tracks ,

Hundreds of kilometres long.

Broken up motorways are standing in the way of the quick help that is so much needed.

Las carreteras destruídas dificultan proporcionar la ayuda rápida que tanto se necesita .

Lo mejor de las carreteras es que es más fácil viajar desde la ciudad al campo. Salvo cuando es temporada de vacaciones y todo el mundo lo hace también.

The best thing about highways is that it is easier to travel from the city to the country. Except in the holiday period, when everyone is doing that too.

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live! ~Bob Marley

La vida es una gran carretera con muchas señales. Entonces cuando andas por las rodadas, no te desconciertes. Huye del odio, del daño, y de la envidia. No escondas tus pensamientos, haz realidad tu visión. ¡Despiértate y vive!
