I couldn´t help but notice..

I couldn´t help but notice..

Hola a todos

I couldn´t help but wonder how to say ¨I couldn´t help but notice that..¨

If I had to punt, and come up with something functionally similar, I might try ¨No podría evitar darme cuenta que...¨

But what I´m really looking for is to see if there is some native modismo or frasa hecha that would convey the same idea.

Glad to hear any ideas you might have.

Gracias. Roger

It just occured to me - "what the heck is the - but - doing in that sentence" ? - ian-hill, Nov 1, 2013
I don´t know either, good question, but it ´s one of the reasons I´m pretty sure we need an accomplished native or advanced learner. A machine translator is not likely to cut it. - rogspax, Nov 1, 2013
Se nota que no sabes nada sobre el tema.. poss it would be in the subjunctive? - annierats, Nov 1, 2013

Sorry but,

I know nothing.

No sé nada.

(I guess if anyone under 40 knows what this is about we have reruns to thank for that.)

My way would be, "(yo) No faltaba en notar fue que----"

However the SD translator gives this one among several others that didn't hit the mark.

No pude dejar de notar que This is much closer to the English than mine is.

Arrrrrgh! I did it again--got sucked into one of the oldies. Sheesh! - Daniela2041, Dec 8, 2016
But those of us who weren't here for the first go-round can still learn from these oldies. - AnnRon, Dec 8, 2016

I can't help wondering if "no puedo sino darme cuenta" might also fill the bill.

I also can't help but wonder whether rogspax has found his own answer by now.

How about:

Uh, umm, uh, desculpe-me, uh, umm, uh, lo siento, um, uh, uh, pero, no puse ayudado evitar veyendo que umm, uh, que...

It sets the atmosphere of the urge to be really discreet in a very open way, don't you think?

Yes, that is the sentiment. It is a very soft introduction or transition phrase, absolving the speaker of responsibility. A bit like the Spanish ¨se me¨ constructs. Se me dio cuenta? - rogspax, Nov 1, 2013
