• buen, bueno, buena are the same, good. Buen and bueno are masculine and buena femenine. The difference between buen and bueno is that buen is used in front of the noum and bueno is used after the noum-

• A good car: un buen coche, un coche bueno

• A good letter: una buena carta

I don't know a phrase where "well" can be translated by "bueno", but it is not usual. "Well" and "Bien" are adverbs and "good" and "bueno" are adjectives, so translation is usually literal.

I think that if sometimes "well" is translated as bueno it will be when the translation from English to Spanish is totally different, for example an idiom or a set phrase in one or the other language.
