fortuna ( fohr-too'-nah )

(noun) fortune, luck; fortune (monetary)

Sylyon1976 is the official corrector for the Spanish sentences. Please correct your posts according to her suggestions. There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. ¡Qué mala fortuna tengo! Se me averió el coche, y entonces mientras esperaba el autobús, empezó a llover y me empapé.

What bad luck I have! My car broke down, and then while I waited for the bus it started to rain and I got soaked.

2. No conocí muy bien a mi tío abuelo, pero cuando murió me dejó una pequeña fortuna.

I didn't know my great uncle very well, but when he died he left me a small fortune.

Annie, traté de mandarte un mensaje privado, pero dice que no está permitido. Me voy de vacaciones el viernes 1 de Nov. por unos días a México. No voy a poder ayudarlos a corregir por esos días. Espero tu comprensión. Si a mi regreso alguien más está... - 00e46f15, Oct 26, 2013
ayudándoles a hacer las correcciones, yo no tendría problema en cederle a esa persona mi lugar. Gracias de antemano. Estaré ayudando hasta el jueves, si Dios quiere. Solo me iré por 5 días. Gracias de nuevo! Bendiciones, Susy. - 00e46f15, Oct 26, 2013

Desde que tengo uso de razón he visto el programa "La Rueda de la Fortuna". Ahora mis hijos también lo ven.

Since I can remember, I have watched the TV show "Wheel of Fortune". Now my kids watch it, too.

They had the "Mexican" version in the 90's (in Mexico), but it did not work. Tuvimos la versión en español (en México) en los años noventa, pero fue un fracaso.

Hoy es un día de mala fortuna para mí, todos los puntos queme gano equivalen

a cero.

¡ Como si eso importa en la vida!

Today is a day of bad fortune for me , all the points I earn are zero.

As if that matters in life !

No estoy seguro si quiero una fortuna de dinero. se sabe que mucho dinero, lleva muchos amigos falsos. No me gusta tener amigos falsos y por eso no quiero mucho dinero. Tengo mis chicas, trabajo y un techo encima de mi casa....no necesito más cosas. (no hablo de cosas espiritual)

I'm not sure if I want a fortune of money. It's known that much money brings many false friends. I don't like to have false friends and therefore I don't want much money. I have my girls, work and a roof on top of my house....I don't need more things. (I'm not talking about spiritual things)

Podemos tener mala o buena fortuna, pero la fortuna que debíamos valorar es la cual nos haga mejor como seres humanos.

We can have good fortune or bad fortune, but the fortune that we ought to treasure is the one that will make us better human beings.
