In addition to all nice answers you've been already given:

  • Bolso (noun - mas.) ? Purse, woman's purse, pocketbook, handbag, overnight bag. Images for bolso.
  • Bolsa (noun - fem.) ? Bag, sack, also stock market. Images for bolsa.

Saludos

Bolso is generally a handbag like those that women carry, while bolsa on the other hand encompasses all the other types of bags, from groceries to hot water to trash.

Side note: It seems backwards to me. Women carry the masculine form and wear dresses which are also masculine. A complete lack of consistency. All things female should be feminine. But it is as it is. Así es así.

Clue: Most men would not be seen dead carrying a bolso. A kind man might well carry the bolsa for you.
