Thisis not a comprehensive answer it is only my thinking, ask before buying, or point and ask !

It depends on the ingredients: tarta de manzanas.. mmm (apple cake, probably has eggs in it)

pastel de manzana : appel pie, not so bad either ( probably with pastry, but this is not certain)..

Torta de manzana con nata ( probably a splendid thing with cream, for a birthday cake )

Really, there is little difference, consult a recipie book, there are almost certainly many regional differences, family differences etc etc!

They are all fattening, I'm 100% sure of that.

The only catch (that I know of) with torta is that for Mexicans a torta is a type of sandwich and a pastel is a cake.

I think they are the only one that use "torta" for sandwich/emparedado. - chileno, Oct 23, 2013
Yes, I think there must be lots of variations on this one! - annierats, Oct 23, 2013

I did it already before you told me so, but when I check pastel and torta, it shows the samething - the birthday cake. So that's why I want to know the differences.

You can simply Google "fotos torta (tarta, pastel)" and you'll get a ton of pictures. - rodneyp, Oct 23, 2013
I could find you an interesting one for '' tart'' which should be used with care, in English. - annierats, Oct 23, 2013
