Check homework using the preterite tense

I would be grateful if my homework could be checked. "Write a about a holiday using the preterite tense".
El año pasado fui a Lanzarote, Las Islas Canarias, en vacaciones con mi familia. Volvamos del aeropuerto de Manchester, el viaje era bastante largo de 4 horas.
Nos quedamos en un hotel por la playa. La habitación era acogedora por eso dormí muy bien. Por la noche era diversión en el hotel nos divertimos y reímos.
Por el día me relajé por la piscina y anduve por la playa. Fuimos a los bares tomar la merienda. Pedí la comida y las bebidas en español y nos sentamos fuera.
Un día tuvimos la oportunidad cuando el tiempo hizo mal visitar una ciudad que se llama Arrecife. Un otro día fuimos de excursión a un parque nacional donde hay volcanes.
No conduje pero a veces cogimos el taxi y el aútobus.
¡Me gustaron muchas las vacaciones!

Your uses of "era" in the first 2 sentences are incorrect. It should be the verb estar not ser, in the first and haber in the second. I think you can use the preterite in both cases because there is a specified time period. The rest looks good although I don't know why you change from first person singular to first person plural in the next to last sentence.
I'm not a native speaker so hopefully you'll get some more feedback to confirm but these would be my suggestions ...

Volvamos del aeropuerto de Manchester, el viaje era bastante largo de 4 horas.
What did you want to say here? Volver means 'to return', did you want to say 'we left from'? Salimos ... perhaps?
Nos quedamos en un hotel por la playa.
This might just be personal preference but I'd say 'cerca de la playa'.
La habitación era acogedora por eso dormí muy bien.
Por la noche era diversión en el hotel nos divertimos y reímos.
It often helps to post your English translation as I'm not sure what exactly you were trying to say here. Did you mean 'it was fun', 'there was fun'? Sorry I can't really correct it until I know what you wanted to say.

Once again it may be personal preference but I'd say 'al lado de la piscina'.
Fuimos a los bares tomar la merienda.
Fuimos a una barra para merendar / almorzar.
Pedí la comida y las bebidas en español y nos sentamos fuera.
Un día tuvimos la oportunidad cuando el tiempo hizo mal a visitar una ciudad que se llama Arrecife.
Un otro día fuimos de excursión a un parque nacional donde hay volcanes.
You never need to put 'un' before 'otra' it's built in. Otro día = another day Había not hay. There were not there are.
No conduje pero a veces cogimos el taxi y el aútobus.
I'd stay 'un' taxi etc instead of el.
