I agree with KiwiGirl´s answers, but because Mexico is such a country of social classes, there it would be common to say Los líderes de la gente corriente.
This term is commonly used by people of middle and upper classes, but I don´t recommend using it in areas of the city such as Tepito, La Raza, etc.

Do you mean leaders of 'the' working class?
Líderes de la clase obrera.
Or you could say ...
Los dirigentes de la clase obrera.
Or if you wanted to get all literary on us you could say ...
La vanguardia (de la lucha) de la clase obrera ....
