I need help translating the following sentence please.

This popular painting is the artist’s most well known Australian work.

My translation:

Este cuadro popular es lo más conocido trabajo australiano del pintor.

(I am afraid that is the best I can do).

You did a great job, especially given that you didn't feel well - I would change 'trabajo' to 'obra austaliana' .

Here's a thread that shows why.

And as far as 'cuadro' goes that's perfect or as Rog suggested 'pintura' could just as easily be used.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks Kiwi-Girl. I have a fantastic Collins Spanish/English Dictionary at home that has samples of sentences that helped me. - 00a50c57, Oct 13, 2013

Hola Earlyspanish.

That´s a pretty good effort. Hopefully you´ll get the native response you desire eventually. In the meantime, I´ll merely note that for artistic things, I believe I´ve usually seen ¨obra¨ used instead of ¨trabajo¨. I´m not saying trabajo is wrong, because I´m not sure of that, but merely that both in class and a couple online things I´ve done, we´ve been shown ¨obra¨ in this context.

As for Cuadro, I´ve seen that word used about equally with la Pintura, and I too wouldn´t mind hearing more guidance on when to use one vs the other, or if they´re truly synonymous.

Hope you feel better soon.

cheers
